If you're like me, you probably spend a considerable amount of time in your kitchen pantry, making sure your family actually has food to eat for each meal. But let's admit it, sometimes our pantries can become a chaotic mess! That's why I decided to embark on a fun and budget-friendly pantry makeover that has made my life so much easier. And set up stations so that my kids could prep their own breakfasts and snacks on these busy school mornings. In this blog post, I'll take you through the step-by-step process and share all the products and supplies I used, which I purchased from Home Depot. (

1. Plan and Measure:

Before you start, take some time to measure your pantry space and create a rough sketch of how you want it to look. Consider your family's needs, the types of items you store, and how you can optimize the available space. My space (used to be a laundry nook!) was about 67" x 54". I decided to take off the old bifold doors and use this arch kit to arch the now-open doorway.

2. New Cabinets

I chose two different cabinets for this pantry: one with lots of drawers for the kids' snacks and one more shallow cabinet for the side wall (it's actually an upper wall cabinet but I just placed it on a base of 2x4s. Home Depot offers a wide variety of cabinet options, so you're sure to find something that matches your style.

3. Beverage Fridge

Adding a beverage fridge has been a game-changer! Now, I have a designated spot for drinks, freeing up space in my main refrigerator. And the kids' milk and juices are right where they can reach them!

4. Butcher Block Countertops

Butcher block countertops are a great DIY option. You can cut them to fit any layout (with a circular saw or jigsaw) and attach them to the cabinets from underneath with screws (be very careful the screws are short enough that they won't go through your butcher block.

5. Penny Tile Backsplash

I fell in love with penny tiles because of their unique charm. The backsplash adds a touch of personality to the pantry and is easy to clean.

6. Floating Shelves

Floating shelves are perfect for displaying jars, baskets, and other pantry staples. They maximize vertical space and keep items within easy reach. These are just pine 1x12s on brackets.

7. Shiplap Accent Wall

Shiplap is an excellent way to add texture and interest to the pantry. It's also a breeze to install with the right tools. It literally took me 15 minutes for that wall.

8. Organizers and Baskets

To keep everything in order, invest in some organizers and baskets. They help group similar items together, making it easier to find what you need. I also love these jars with copper lids. This cereal dispenser is my kids' favorite thing!

9. Paint and Finishing Touches:

Choose a light and airy paint color that complements the rest of your kitchen. I chose Behr's Even Better Beige to match my dining room accent wall and used Behr's Cabinet and Trim paint.

10. Get the Family Involved:

Make it a family project! Involve your kids in tiling, painting or organizing their snacks and treats. It's an excellent opportunity to give them confidence that they can make their home better.

Remember, this pantry makeover doesn't have to break the bank. The Home Depot has fantastic deals and a wide range of products to fit every budget. With a little creativity and effort, you can achieve a beautiful and functional pantry that will make your life as a busy mom much more manageable.

Happy DIYing, and here's to a more organized and enjoyable kitchen space for all of us! Cheers!
